The primary purpose of this position is to perform assigned and continuing mixed duties involving operation of all special purpose/material handling equipment and motor vehicles assigned to Passenger Service; and light to heavy baggage handling and laboring duties, requiring some manual skills and knowledge; clean and maintain passenger common and comfort areas.

Duties

- Operates gasoline, diesel, or electric powered vehicle. Loads and/or unloads vehicles. - Performs operator motor vehicle maintenance. Completes required forms and/or documentation. Utilizes safety practices and procedures. - Maintains and stores equipment. Supports management and local directives. - Project a positive and courteous attitude when dealing with DOD military and civilian personnel and their dependents and keep supervisors informed of problem areas. Performs fleet service details and routine custodial functions on military and contract carrier aircraft. - Removes "foreign garbage" from aircraft and disposes of same in a timely and appropriate manner. All flights coming directly from foreign countries contain "foreign garbage."

  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5700 Transportation/Mobile Equipment Operation Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of a MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of Federal, State, and base laws and movement restrictions pertaining to the vehicles operated. 2. Ability to interpret oral and written instructions and specifications related to the operation, loading and unloading, and maintenance of motor vehicles. 3. Ability to load and unload passengers, baggage, and materials to prevent shifting, falling or damage of any type. 4. Ability to operate a forklift. 5. Ability to perform routine vehicle operator maintenance. Knowledge of various trip reports and documents. 6. Knowledge of safety practices and procedures. Knowledge of equipment maintenance and storage requirements. Skill in operation of heavy motor vehicles. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy lifting (50lbs and over). Heavy carrying (45lbs and over). Hours of straight pulling are 15 hours a week. Hours of pushing are 5 hours a week. Reaching above shoulder. Use of fingers. Both hands required. Hours of walking are 5 hours a week. Hours of standing are 5 hours a week. Hours of kneeling are 5 hours a week. Hours of repeated bending are 11 hours a week. climbing, use of legs and arms. Both legs required. Operation of crane, truck, tractor or motor vehicle. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. S[ecific visual requirement is the minimum requirement for state motor vehicle licensing. Both eyes are required with depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors.
