This position serves as Supervisory Public Affairs Officer of the Lexington VA Health Care System (LVAHCS). This position plans, directs, and programmatically managers the healthcare system's public affairs office.
Duties

Major Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Responsible for planning, developing, and communicating the organization's programs, policies, and activities to the public and electoral offices while displaying tact, common sense, diplomacy, discernment, initiative, and professionalism.
Goals of this position include increasing awareness and improving perception, for internal and external stakeholders, of VA programs, services, special events, projects, technologies, research, and other innovations and accomplishments for the Veteran population within and beyond the Lexington catchment area.
Evaluates and advises management officials on specific courses of action to follow in making public announcements.
Prepares facility all user communication, such as newsletters, training, and event announcements, etc.
Leads team(s) in research, analysis, development, and implementation of public affairs and outreach strategic communications and marketing plans for highly visible and potentially sensitive agency programs.
Establishes and maintains proactive contacts with media outlets, legislative offices, veteran service organizations, and health care affiliates.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with representatives of the print and broadcast media, legislative offices, and national organizations interested in the environmental, recreational, and conservation aspects of the organization's programs.
Provides direct supervision and management of three employees.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

GS-13 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in Federal service. The Specialized Experience for this position is experience performing public relations type work for a medical center to include experience planning, organizing, directing, and managing the day-to-day operations of public affairs and medical media programs for a medical center and providing supervision, leadership, and direction to others in accomplishing these tasks; experience cultivating and coordinating relationships with a variety of stakeholders including high-ranking officials from state and local government, Veterans Service Organization representatives, local and regional media representatives, area business organizations, and public affairs directors from nearby hospitals and other private sector businesses to develop and maintain mutually beneficial partnership efforts; and experience assessing the productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency of program operations and/or analyzing and resolving problems in effectiveness and efficiency of administrative support and staff activities.
