About the Position: As Deputy Chief, Law Enforcement and Security Division, the incumbent is technically and administratively responsible for the law enforcement operations at Tooele Army Depot.

Duties

Perform a wide range of managerial tasks in planning, managing, directing and evaluating law enforcement operations with full authority to make decisions and commit to a course of action Prepare and support estimates regarding budgetary requirements, anticipated workloads, and capabilities of the organization Develop, initiate, and critique training exercises to evaluate the security posture at applicable depot activities Determine the adequacy of security coverage and controls for each area of the depot Exercise law enforcement jurisdiction with responsibility for investigating, apprehending or detaining persons suspected or convicted of offenses against the criminal laws of the United States Plan work assignment of shift operations using the advice and assistance of subordinate supervisors Maintain familiarization with position structures and initiate fully coordinated position management studies whenever required Coordinate with workers and union representatives to resolve complaints and grievances Establish performance standards and evaluate subordinate supervisors

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET level security clearance.
  • IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing. Must successfully complete drug screening.
  • Failure to maintain minimum standards as outlined in AR 190-56 and/ or local policy may result in termination of employment.
  • Hours of work may fluctuate to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Overtime may be required. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete pre-employment and annual physical examination. (physical, emotional and mental stability, etc).
  • Incumbent must successfully complete law enforcement training.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete CPR certification and First Aid.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated equipment, and may be require to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants.
  • Incumbent is required to pass entry level and/or annual re-certification of the physical readiness fitness test per AR 190-56 and/or local policy.
  • Incumbent required to possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Incumbent required to wear prescribed uniform.
  • This position is covered by the l996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of l968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes leading and performing a full range of law enforcement functions, actions and activities in the protection of life, property and civil rights such as physical security, anti-terrorism, report writing, apprehend violators, access control, traffic law enforcement, conduct preliminary and/or ongoing investigations, and issuance of citations; AND assisting with the management and training of police officer personnel and with the development/implementation of law enforcement programs, operating plans, policies, and procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: AccountabilityDecision MakingManaging Human Resources Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent.
