This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The Alaska District is seeking to fill a fire protection engineer position located in the Mechanical Section. An ideal candidate will have strong experience in design and testing or installation of fire detection and suppression systems for commercial and military facilities.

Duties

This is a developmental position; duties listed below will be performed in a developmental capacity at the GS-12 grade level. At the full performance, GS-13, the incumbent will: Provides program direction and is the technical expert on FPP functional area. Develops and distributes procedural guides and instructions for District use in implementing programs. Serves as District authority to interpret and provide advice on HQ policies, regulations, and engineering criteria. Based on technical expertise, supplements HQ's directives and technical guidelines. Serves as consultant to District offices, users of facilities, DOD customers such as Army, Air Force and DLA and others regarding fire protection and detection systems design, information, data and problems.

Requirements

  • Incumbent may be required to obtain and maintain a T3 secret clearance.
  • Incumbent must possess professional registration at the GS-13 grade level.

The entry requirement requires completion of education or a combination of education and experience sufficient to be comparable to that normally acquired through the completion of a four year course of study with a major in the professional or scientific field. Please refer to the Office of Personnel Management Individual Occupational Requirements for possible ways to meet the basic requirements. Basic Requirement Fire Protection Engineer 0804 series: Fire Protection Engineering Series 0804 (opm.gov) In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience GS-12: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in reviewing designs, plans and specifications for fire protection systems; conducting pre-design surveys to obtain data for Fire Protection systems; and/or participating in the testing of Fire Protection systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Specialized Experience GS-13: One year of specialized experience which includes designing Fire Protection systems, and reviewing designs, plans and specifications for fire protection systems; conducting pre-design surveys to obtain data for Fire Protection systems; and participating in the testing of Fire Protection systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). This position has selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment. Selective Placement Factor: This position requires a current, active, valid and unrestricted license as a Professional Engineer (PE) in a state, the District of Columbia, or a territory of the United States.
