About the Position: Incumbent will serve as an Emergency Medical Technician for the Ambulance Section at Evans Army Community Hospital, Fort Carson, Colorado.
Relocation expenses will not be paid.
Duties
Responds to on-site accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illnesses.
Conducts a complete examination of the patient to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of his condition and searches for medical alert symbols.
Makes modifications to the protocol, if necessary, within prescribed limits.
Prioritizes treatments for patient having multiple problems and employs a variety of established emergency medicine techniques, methods and equipment to the appropriate medical facility.
Documents procedures or treatments rendered.
Ensure the vehicle is ready for the next run.
Reports in clear, concise manner what injuries were identified.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a Childcare National Agency Check w/ Inquiries (CNACI) background investigation and has periodic re-verification requirements.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug testing during employment.
- Certification: Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted issued Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification, certification through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-(NREMT).
- This position requires that you possess and maintain OR obtain and maintain within 1 year of entrance on duty the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT-B) certification.
- If you do not possess a NREMT-B then you must have a valid State level EMT-B certification until a NREMT-B certification is obtained.
- Possess and maintain current certification for Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) for Health care Providers.
- Obtain and maintain NIMS ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 level training within six months of hire.
- This position requires the selectee to pass a pre-employment physical. Position requires lifting of up to 125 lbs.
- This position requires the incumbent to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and/or 12-hour shifts.
- Must possess and maintain a current valid state driver's license. Incumbent will be required to pass an Army approved defensive driving certification course
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position requires the incumbent to wear a uniform.
- A one year probationary period is required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes demonstrated experience: providing emergency medical assistance and transport that included conducting triage and basic assessment of patients; administering IV's and operating an ambulance or working in the Emergency Department of a hospital providing emergency assistance as needed. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, which supports the knowledge, skills and ability to do the work of the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
