The primary purpose of this position is to to provide a working leader to assist and advise a crew to perform full level performance as Fuel Distribution Mechanic duties. To sign and submit required state Logs to the proper agency for transmittal to the State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

Duties

Performs typical working leader duties leading journeyman, workers, and helpers by passing on instructions received from supervisors and getting work started by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group being led. Performs work direction responsibilities.to include assigning work to individuals and providing technical direction and/or help in accomplishing difficult work steps and processes. Performs administration responsibilities. Inspects and tests fuel receiving, storage, and distribution facilities and performs preventive maintenance on fuel systems and components. Performs all phases of liquid fuel system and component maintenance including preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and modification. Troubleshoots and repairs problems in the electrical components of liquid fuel distribution systems.

  • Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends and/or holidays and emergency overtime may be required

  • Selectee may be required to serve a probationary or trial period.
  • The work may require that employee be certified in the use of a respirator
  • The work may require that the employee be certified or able to be certified as qualified for entry into hazardous liquid fuel tanks for inspection, cleaning, and repair
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver?s license is required for the position
  • Work is performed inside and outside and may be subject to extreme heat and cold and hard, damp floors or surfaces. May be required to make installations and repairs outside during inclement weather.
  • Work is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, strains, bruises, burns, infections, and skin abrasions. Occasionally exposed to the possibility of broken bones.
  • Subject to skin irritation from fuels and oils: exposure to noxious fumes or toxic vapors: and danger of fire, explosion, electrical shock, and asphyxiation
  • May be subject to claustrophobic conditions and the wearing of cumbersome breathing equipment when performing periodic cleaning of the interior of bulk storage tanks.

The screen out element for this position is ability to lead or supervise JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprinting reading)Measurement and Layout Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Trouble Shooting PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).
