You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER in the Fire Suppression Division of CNI NAVMAG INDIAN ISLAND.

Duties

You will lead a crew of three or more firefighters assigned to staff a pumper, aerial ladder truck, or rescue vehicle in firefighting and rescue operations. You will advise senior leaders (e.g., Supervisory Fire Protection Inspector) on fire prevention or fire protection systems inspections and maintenance programs. You will determine the potential harm of hazardous material to people and the environment. You will assess a junior firefighter or employee work performance to determine if performance objectives are being met. You will brief fire investigation findings to senior leaders. You will prepare inspection reports to document findings of fire safety deficiencies.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position requires exposure to high noise levels.
  • Required to work a 72-hour week, which includes weekends and holidays. Subject to mandatory overtime and recall.
  • You will be required to participate on Hazardous Materials team.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:1) Leading day to day operations for a crew of firefighters (i.e. directing drills, assigning work, etc.) in addition to providing guidance and training on firefighter related procedures; 2) Fighting structural, shipboard, and/or airfield fires using pre-fire planning methods and knowledge of layouts and design; 3) Operating firefighting vehicles and equipment in accordance with principles of hydraulics and firefighting techniques; and 4) Providing emergency assistance (first aid, basic life support, HAZMAT, etc.) in accordance with safety standards and regulations. For Applicants who are current or prior Federal competitive or excepted service employees Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:1) Leading day to day operations for a crew of firefighters (i.e. directing drills, assigning work, etc.) in addition to providing guidance and training on firefighter related procedures; 2) Fighting structural, shipboard, and/or airfield fires using pre-fire planning methods and knowledge of layouts and design; 3) Operating firefighting vehicles and equipment in accordance with principles of hydraulics and firefighting techniques; and 4) Providing emergency assistance (first aid, basic life support, HAZMAT, etc.) in accordance with safety standards and regulations. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for this position: Firefighter I and II, Fire Officer I and II, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, HazMat Awareness, Operations, Technician, and Incident Commander (under NFPA standards adopted by DOD), Driver Operator Pumper, and possess National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement.
