This position is located in Social Work Service at the VA Gulf Coast Healthcare System - Biloxi VA Medical Center in Biloxi, MS. The Secretary will provide secretarial support to the Chief of Social Work and will provide professional and administrative guidance to all of the program coordinators.
Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Receives telephone and personal callers including patients, family members, significant others, congressional inquiries, and employees of the facility.
Screens request and determines appropriate action according to priority and makes referrals to appropriate sources.
Handles routine matters, complaints, and problems and refers technical matters to other responsive personnel.
Maintains management calendar including coordinating schedules, appointments, meetings, and conferences.
Receives all incoming mail.
Reviews, screens, and determines priorities.
Maintains and tracks control points and credit card activities.
Prepares and tops technical correspondence for management.
Assembles statistical and narrative material for preparation of various reports.
Maintains time and attendance records.
Other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements:
TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.
AND
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-5) in Federal Service, that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of a Secretary (Office Automation), GS-6 position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. Specialized experience includes: preparing professional correspondence; scheduling meetings; preparing meeting agendas; taking meeting minutes; creating and maintaining tracking systems; maintaining office files; and purchasing and maintaining supplies and equipment. This experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, may be some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items like paper or books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
