This position is located in the Media Relations, Policy Communications and Writing (DKP) of Communications (DK), which reports to the Workforce and Strategy Office (D) of the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA).
The purpose of this position is to develop written communication products in support of agency, departmental and client communications plans and strategies, which inform employees of BPA's policies, programs, services and activities.
Duties
As a Writer-Editor, you will:
Write, edit and rewrite communication products, including web articles, mass email communications, talking points or speeches, and a variety of other documents and reports that inform internal audiences about BPA's policies, programs, projects, events and activities.
Ensure products are well written, clearly organized, consistent with other departmental and agency communications, and reflect well on BPA and are understandable by target audience(s).
Proofread final text for consistency, format, completeness, spelling, punctuation, capitalizations, syntax and accuracy.
Recommend new story/article ideas to clients and department team based on research and opportunities to connect content to other business activities.
Respond to feedback from subject-matter experts, content owners, supervisor, colleagues, and audience to improve communications and content as needed.
Publish content for BPA's intranet and external website, posting all elements (article text, photos, videos, graphics).
Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) in the Federal service.
Specialized experience for this position is defined as: (1) Using correct grammar, appropriate tone, proper punctuation and structure to develop written material; (2) developing communication products that are factual, clear and meaningful to the intended audience; (3) providing writing support for communications efforts.
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:
- One year of graduate-level education, or superior academic achievement (S.A.A.) gained in a bachelor degree curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled (based on class standing, grade-point average, or honor society membership). -Combination of education and experience as described above. Less than one year of specialized experience may be combined with completed graduate education.
"Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

- Your transcripts must include your degree title and degree conferred date, or;
- If you are within 9 months of graduating you must submit your current transcripts and include your anticipated graduation date on your resume to determine your eligibility for the Recent Graduate program.
- If education may be substituted for experience, indicate this and include the general formula for education to experience conversion (e.g., a Bachelor's Degree qualifies at the GS-5 level).
- If education is required due to a positive education requirement, explain the requirements in detail (e.g., type of degree, subject area of coursework, certificates, etc.).
