This position is located at the Mid-Atlantic Service Unit (MASU), Nashville Area Indian Health Service in Madison Heights, VA. The Health Technician will provide support to the outpatient behavioral health program staff who provide comprehensive mental health services to Indian Health Service patients. This position will report to the Behavioral Health Supervisor.

Duties

The Health Technician position is comprised of patient care support services for MASU Indian Health Service patients. Provides Patient Care Support Services Receive patients including scheduling patients, checking in patients, and completing GPRA for each patient. Schedule and manage all patient appointments and provider schedulles in RPMS/Electronic Health Record. Complete reminder calls for all scheduled patients 24-48 hours prior to their next appointment. Receive all calls coming to the Behavioral Health department and redirect/transfer calls to other departments, clinics, or community resources as necessary. Provides Clinical Assistance Update patient electronic medical records as needed; document all contacts and attempted contacts with patients in RPMS. Administer intake paperwork/registration paperwork. Administer, review, and score screening measures. Prepare telehealth patient room, establish the videoconference connection with the provider's location, and provide basic information to patients regarding the telehealth process. Perform Other Clinic Duties Open and close office. Ensure the office unit is stocked with supplies, equipment is cleaned and ready for use; ensures workstations are kept clean and uncluttered. Assist with supply orders as needed. Perform all tasks in compliance with HIPPA regulations, AAAHC guidelines, Behavioral Health Clinic policies and procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures. Demonstrates appropriate behavior and effective communication with team members and patients in a way that promotes professional relationships. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-05 Grade Level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: advise patients on appointment types based on needs; schedule patient appointments; work within a team; answer phones and advise callers regarding services; maintain health records; prepare patients for services such as setting up telehealth rooms or providing appropriate intake paperwork; attend meetings and take notes. OR Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subject directly related to the position. OR Possess a combination of education and experience for the GS-5 level position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to 1 year of specialized experience. Determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the year of specialized experience required at the GS-5 level. Then determine your education as a percentage of the education that meets the requirements for GS-5. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-5.GS- GS-06 Grade Level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: assist distressed patients; previously worked in a mental health clinic; administer screenings for depression, anxiety, and other mental health/substance abuse concerns under the supervision of a licensed provider; managed multiple demands in reception; assist in department improvement projects. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
