The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the primary assessment writer/editor across a variety of content areas as related to the constructs measured by Joint-Service selection and classification test batteries. A significant part of this position is to manage and be otherwise responsible for technical aspects of the development and quality control of the ASVAB test design and content; including the management of efforts performed by contractors within these realms.

Duties

As a WRITER EDITOR at the GS-1082-13 some of your typical work assignments may include: Serves as the primary Writer/Editor and as a subject matter expert responsible for managing the multiple components that comprise the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test to ensure accuracy, consistency, fairness, and conformance to industry professional standards. Manages the design and development of test items in all content areas germane to ASVAB (e.g., in realms such as general science, arithmetic reasoning, word knowledge, paragraph comprehension, math knowledge, electronics information, auto information, shop information, mechanical comprehension, or assembling objects) ensuring that the contractors, vendors, item writers, illustrators, and content editors follow the general guidelines of Defense Testing and Assessment Center (DTAC) and standard professional practices of test development. Manages and conducts content editing and sensitivity reviews of all test content prior to their acceptance from vendors. Writes, revises, and rewords test items. Enforces compliance with specifications provided in DTAC documentation and The Chicago Manual of Style. Prepares item content for computer administration and for paper-based administration and serves as the point-of-contact for any problems and issues. Uses specialized and custom developed software tools/programs to create and keeps track of test questions to be tried out or used on operational test forms. Formats items and incorporates items into item display software. Reviews items and test content within the administration environment to ensure correct formatting, correct content, correct keys, and image accuracy. Consults with staff members, systems programmers, and contractors and provides subject matter expertise and direction to establish state of the art item database storage and retrieval procedures. Responsible for the editorial quality of technical reports, manuals, journal articles, webpage text, briefings, and other publications related to ASVAB. Serves as a DPAC point of contact on editorial and publishing policies and practices.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-13, if you fulfill the following qualifications: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service: Developing test items across a wide variety of content areas, including realms such as general science, arithmetic reasoning, word knowledge, paragraph comprehension, math knowledge, electronics information, auto information, shop information, mechanical comprehension, or assembling objects. Participating in test development efforts that may include content editing, development of test specifications and blueprints, sensitivity and test bias reviews, test fairness, item analyses, and piloting tests. Using software tools/programs to manage and format test items and prepare them for computer-based and paper-based administrations. Applying editing standards and conducting editorial reviews of technical reports, manuals, journal articles, webpage text, and briefings. Please keep your resume to a reasonable length.
