About the Position: Serves as a Security Specialist in the Office of the Commander at the Regional Health Command- Atlantic (RHC-A) Troop Command HQ, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) or Troop Command Fort Belvoir. Provides Administrative Control Service Element Support, executes deployment, and maintains readiness requirements by assisting the Force Protection Officer in a variety of security program functions.
Duties
Initiates and prepares security clearance documents for investigations and reinvestigations.
Establishes folders on incoming employees in accordance with the Modern Army Record Keeping System (MARKS). Maintain office files to verify personnel security clearances.
Assist Security Manager with assigning interim clearances for personnel.
Conducts various briefings for incoming and outgoing personnel. Performs local records checks, Provost Marshal checks, and personnel records checks.
Assist in training individuals and groups on security related matters.
Assist with routine/minor inspections to ensure documents contain the proper security classification.
Conducts security briefings and debriefing on foreign travel.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- Position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security clearance.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- Position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
- Position may be designated as Key (2) Mission Essential and assume essential personnel status during a wide range of emergencies, including localized acts of nature, accidents, and technological or attack-related emergencies.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing assistance in the execution and adjudication of personnel investigations and security clearance requests to include processing unfavorable personnel actions such as suspensions, revocations, terminations, and reinstatements of clearances; assisting in methods to handle and safeguard classified information, personnel, property, and assets and provide aid in problem solving of conventional security problems, questions, or situations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Criminal Justice, Security Management, Cybersecurity, Homeland Security, etc.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and minimum qualification requirements prescribed by OPM within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
