About the Position: This is a PERMANENT as a Victim Advocate (SHARP) with US ARMY Central Command Group, SHAW AFB SC ELIGIBLE FOR SITUATIONAL TELEWORK ONLY, INCLUDING EMERGENCY AND OPM PRESCRIBED "UNSCHEDULED TELEWORK".

Duties

Provides professional and comprehensive advocacy services to individuals exhibiting a wide variety of issues related to being a victim or survivor of sexual harassment or sexual assault. Conducts professional level and administrative educational and interactive training workshops/seminars to victims of sexual harassment and sexual assault. Ensures victims of sexual assault receive all needed guidance and emotional support during administrative, medical, investigative, and legal procedures, and that victims understand the processes involved. Accompanies victims and provides support in securing medical treatment for injuries; safe shelter; protective orders; court hearings; support before, during and after trials. Recognizes symptoms of emotional distress or social disorganization that require immediate additional professional intervention and refers cases to appropriate professional medical and/or social services staff. Coordinates professional and support services for victims with service support and community organizations and agencies - law enforcement, Staff Judge Advocate, legal aid, medical treatment facilities.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Requires off-duty hour support to include a 24-hour rotation for advocacy services to victims.
  • Must successfully complete 7 week SHARP training course and obtain DOD certification within 6-months of hire.
  • Individuals will be screened by the National Sex Offender Registry.
  • Individuals will be screened by the through the Crime Records Center and the Army Central Registry for a history of domestic violence.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license and have the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • This is a designated drug testing position.
  • Must be able to perform temporary duty (TDY) up to 30% of the time.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Victim Advocate (SHARP): A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing work which includes providing professional advocacy services to victims or survivors of sexual assault and sexual harassment; conducting assessments which clients to evaluate needs and risks; recognizing the need for professional intervention and referring to appropriate services; maintaining partnerships in the community, and conducting training/seminars on sexual assault/sexual harassment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Social Work. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer ServiceIntegrity/HonestyInterpersonal Skills Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
