The Registered Nurse - Nurse Manager Wound Ostomy Care Outpatient and Remote Sites position is located with the VA North Texas Health Care System in Dallas, TX. Duties

The Nurse Manager demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others, reports to the Chief Nurse of the assigned area, and demonstrates leadership in the application of the nursing process to patient care and organizational processes. The focus of the Nurse Managers performance encompasses a combination of clinical, educational, and administrative responsibilities. The Nurse Manager, is responsible and accountable for 24/7 operations of the unit, provides coverage for other managers, and ensures that nursing personnel provide timely nursing care which complies with accepted standards of clinical practice. Specific duties of the Nurse Manager Wound Ostomy Care Services include: Assumes a leadership role in the implementation of nursing practices that promote continuous quality improvement and desirable patient outcomes. Develops standards of care and assists in the formulation and evaluation of procedures, protocols and policies related to wound/ostomy patient care for North Texas Health Care Systems. Provides guidance to staff to identify, control or eliminate etiologic factors for skin breakdown, including selection of appropriate support surface. Provides follow-up for patients with ostomies and wound care. Instructs and demonstrates to patient and/or significant other, correct procedures in Wound/ostomy management and care. Initiates assessments, plans, and provides care to patient with ostomies, draining wounds, fistulas, pressure ulcers, acute and/or chronic wounds with orders/referrals from Medical Provider, Negative Pressure Wound Therapy. Provides comprehensive care and teaching to patients and their families regarding the evaluation, selection, and recommendation of supplies and equipment in order to provide optimal wound and ostomy care. Analyzes stock items and recommends appropriate additions and deletions to assure quality and cost-effectiveness of products used for ostomy and wound care. Manages Wound Clinic operations and program development with maintenance of records, statistics and submits reports. Assists staff to maintain current knowledge and competence in the areas of skin, wound, and ostomy management. Provides specialized consultation and collaboration with physicians, licensed independent practitioners, peers, and others in the health care organization to develop, implement, and assure continuity of individualized treatment plans. Prescribes appropriate treatment consults such as wound dressings, ointments, advanced therapies, and specialty mattresses. Monitors and evaluates the prevalence and incidence of pressure ulcers in the Medical Center and coordinates prevalence and incidence studies. Assesses and identifies the educational needs of all levels of nursing staff regarding wounds, ostomy and continence. Participates in the administration of current, evidence-based education of staff, monitoring outcomes of education. Demonstrates strong customer service skills. Actively works with staff to maintain compliance with all regulatory standards. **NOTE: Upon assignment to this position, the incumbent's salary will include two additional steps for assignment to a Head Nurse/Nurse Manager position ONLY while in the position. Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday-Friday, 0730-1600, Rotating shifts may be required to cover remote sites. Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Travel: Nurse Manager for Outpatient and Remotes Sites will require 100% or less travel to other Remote site Clinics. Must be able to drive. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. BASIC REQUIREMENTS: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. License: Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: A minimum of three years of Wound Care as an RN Master's degree in nursing Wound Care Certification 2 years Previous management experience Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. Note regarding MSN degrees: If your MSN was obtained via a Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration, a BSN is not required. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. EDUCATION ACCREDITATION:The Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN), or Master of Science Degree in Nursing (MSN) must be recognized by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by either of the following accrediting agencies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:

  2. The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
