This position serves as the Assistant Chief of Environmental Management Service (EMS) (Hospital Housekeeping Officer) located at the Charles George Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in Asheville, North Carolina. The incumbent supervises the Housekeeping Section and ensures required services are provided.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Manages the sanitation program; Assists in planning, managing, and conducting effective hospital housekeeping programs and ancillary functions; Plans, organizes, directs, controls and evaluates the service provided by housekeeping staff; Manages the recycling program; Manages vendor contracts for various environmental management services; Maintains continuous liaison with the departmental human resources office in areas of personnel recruiting, promotion, training, equal opportunity employment, disciplinary action, performance evaluation, etc.; Ensures acceptable levels of bacteriological and visual cleanliness; Develops, analyzes, evaluates, advises on, or improves the effectiveness of work methods and procedures Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 7:30am-4:00pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: May be authorized for highly qualified candidates Financial Disclosure Report: Not Required

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal Service that has given me the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of an Assistant Hospital Housekeeping Officer, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience must include experience in two or more of the following areas, or other work related to the Assistant Hospital Housekeeping Officer position: (1) Experience that demonstrated a practical working knowledge of the basic principles of chemistry, biology and bacteriology as applied to environmental sanitation, infection control and to the choice and use of antimicrobial agents in the disinfection, sanitization and/or sterilization of surfaces and equipment. (2) Experience in laundry and linen management. (3) Experience in interior design management. (4) Experience that demonstrated a knowledge of waste management, including the requirements relating to hazardous, toxic, and infectious wastes and provisions for their final disposition. (5) Experience that demonstrated a knowledge of pest management, including alternative methods of control and the selection and application of chemicals. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.
