The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Medical Laboratory Aid in the Laboratory Services Department. This position is located under the Shiprock Service Unit at the Four Corners Regional Health Center, in Red Mesa, Arizona.
Duties
Performs specimen collections by venipuncture and capillary techniques following standard laboratory policies.
Assists in the general laboratory by preparing specimens for analysis, labeling specimen tubes, accessioning request to the LIS or manual work logs, preparing laboratory apparatus and equipment for use by technicians and technologists.
Prepares specimens for send out to referral facilities by preparing appropriate requisition for the reference laboratory both manually and by computer entry, assists with maintenance of send out log sheets, ensures specimens are appropriately preserved and packaged according to procedural guidelines.
Prepares samples for microscopic examination.
Assist with filing reports, delivery of completed reports to medical records. and other duties as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Training:
For GS-3 Grade Level: Successful completion of (a) a full-time training course of approximately a year's duration in a medical or clinical laboratory assistant (or technician) school that included instruction in chemistry, hematology, blood banking, and microbiology (including serology) and that, in addition, included supervised laboratory practice incident to the diagnostic process and the treatment of patients; or (b) 1 year of study that included at least 6 semester hours in chemistry and/or biological science.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-03 Grade Level: Six months of general experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of the position or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject matter of a medical technician. To qualify for this position you must show in your resume that you possess this experience.
Or
One year of education above high school including courses related to this position. To qualify for this position using education you must include a copy of your transcripts.
Or
A combination of education above high school, including courses related to this position and experience that meets the requirements. To qualify for this position using a combination of education and experience you must include a copy of your transcripts as well as showing in your resume that you meet this experience.
