Duties

You will check tires, lights, brakes, gas or fuel oil, water, lubrication and other checks as required. You will drive and operate tracked and wheeled tractors, both gasoline and diesel powered. You will operate motor graders, pulva mixers, paving breakers, backhoes, bucket scrapers, aquatic weed cutter, mudcat, and rollers of various types. You will drive and operate tandem rollers, compressors with attachments and accessories, self-loaders, asphalt distributors, power spray guns and power driven motors. You will perform all phases of motor grading work such as, grading to grade stakes, scarifying, mixing of materials, and road construction.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or Non-sensitive security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You must have normal vision and hearing with or without corrective devices.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You must furnish basic hand tools typical of the trade; special tools pertaining to the trade will be furnished by the organization.
  • You will work assigned shifts but subject to call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • You must be able to obtain a US Government operator's permit to operate various types of engineering equipment and vehicles not exceeding 86,000 pounds.
  • You will be required to POSSESS and maintain a current valid State COMMERCIAL CLASS A driver?s license. NOTE: Failure to provide a copy of your valid license will automatically disqualify you from consideration.
  • If you have an out of state Class "A" license you will be required to schedule an appointment with California DMV within 10 days of start date.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: the ability to operate gasoline or diesel powered, wheeled or tracked, engineering equipment involving the utilization of power take-off units and attachments in the performance of structures and grounds maintenance.
