National Park Service's (NPS) Law Enforcement Training Center provides professional law enforcement training to all units within NPS. Our work is focused on contemporary law enforcement training with leadership, advocacy, expertise and vision. We are seeking an experienced, dynamic & energetic individual to serve as a Law Enforcement Firearms and Electronic Control Device Coordinator and Law Enforcement Instructor.

Duties

Carries out the responsibility for Firearms and Electronic Control Device facilitation and training for the NPS Law Enforcement/Resource Protection career field Serves as coordinator of the NPS Firearms and Electronic Control Device (ECD) inventory, with responsibility for Service-wide firearms facilitation and serves as a firearm and ECD instructor and curriculum developer Serves as instructor and course developer for assigned areas of law enforcement training Performs research for new/contemporary law enforcement equipment/products and performs technical evaluation (TTE) functions for these items, to include instructional methodologies, techniques, and technologies for equipment Ensures course content aligns with NPS, Department of Interior and law enforcement standards and policies Serves as a Type 1 Commissioned Law Enforcement officer

  • May be subject to a one-year probationary period.

  • Status candidates must meet-time-in-grade requirements.
  • You will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
  • Prior to appointment, you must be determined physically fit by an authorized government physician to perform strenuous and physically demanding duties. See Additional Information.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
  • A valid state driver's license is required.

Qualifications

In order to be qualified for this position, you must possess: one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, preparing communications, guidelines, or plans for law enforcement projects/programs; updating or developing lesson plans and curriculum for law enforcement specific training; and modifying or drafting standards and procedures for law enforcement operations - AND - experience gained by substantial service in a primary law enforcement position in the Federal government, or equivalent documented experience outside the Federal government - AND - a NPS Type I Law Enforcement Commission in good standing - or - be qualified to receive a (Type I) Commission upon appointment based upon having completed approved NPS training as outlined by policy including Natural Resource Police Training (NRPT), Land Management Police Training Program (LMPT), US Park Police Integrated (USPPI), Training Center. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected.
