Duties

You will develop and implement innovative programs and strategies to ensure data standards, data structure, and data analytics reflect relevant principles, standards, risks, and industry best practices. You will build models, algorithms and data structures for machine learning. Experience with statistical analysis methodologies, version control tools and databases. You will utilize the ability to understand business needs quickly, and identify/prioritize data science efforts to deliver impact. You will utilize the ability to analyze large data sets and deliver compelling insights to technical and non-technical audiences. You will conceive, plan, and conduct pioneering work of outstanding scope, difficulty, and complexity in unexplored or heretofore unpromising areas of investigation. You will make presentations and writes technical reports and papers in area of expertise.

  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain the credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for specialty area Data Analytics level advanced within 12 months of appointment.
  • You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the grade level or ND-04 (GS-12/13 equivalency) pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Scientist leading the research, development, or Test and Evaluation (T&E) of data management capabilities of systems or software to support technological advancement of programs. Successful completion of a bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
OR
Have a combination of education and experience, where my courses are equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, or a field directly related to the position, plus additional education or appropriate experience that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
