THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a PAINTING WORKER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1217000 and is part of the NC G4, National Guard (G4-CSMS / Manning Document 6021-613).

Duties

As an PAINTER, WG-4102-08 you will prepare surfaces (i.e., metal, wood and glass) by removing rust, paint, and loose particles; fill in holes and dents using body fillers and hardeners; sand and even out dents, scars to assure a smooth, level surface using sanders, scrapers, sandpaper, hand tools, wire brushes, paint remover; apply coatings to specified areas ensuring the surfaces are free from skips, runs, drips; apply rustproof compound to areas such as splash panels, quarter panels, seams structural members, underbody construction; apply coatings using brushes, rollers, spray paint equipment; prepare coating materials using guidelines set by the manufacturer, by tinting, toning, etching, blending, and mixing in various additives needed for the different coatings to work properly and achieve the necessary surface appearance; use measuring equipment to achieve the proper viscosity, thickness for applying the coatings; apply prime, intermediate, final coats of semi-gloss, gloss, other paint, lacquer, enamel, varnish, shellac; ensure that match, texture, appearance meet finish requirements; replace and apply markings/lettering as specified by appropriate manuals; apply coatings using acceptable methods of the trade to include special finishing techniques to achieve desired results; read/interpret blueprints when applying camouflage patterns; replace markings/letterings as specified by the appropriate manuals; read/interpret directions that relate to mixture, use, application of various kinds of coating materials, solvents, precoating agents; monitor, adjust air pressures in paint booth, controls heat settings, drying times in drying booth to achieve proper surface adhesion of coatings; complete records for paint usage, paint waste as per environmental regulations; apply Chemical Agent Reactive Coating materials in accordance with specifications/dimensions; manage workflow into the paint shop as assigned by the supervisor; determine what jobs can be done in a series or if items need to be completed alone; confer with the customer when needed to best achieve the desired results; clean/maintain painting equipment.

Requirements

  • NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Qualifications

MILITARY GRADES: Enlisted (E1 to E6) MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Experience or training which demonstrates the candidate's knowledge of surface preparation (removal of rust, dirt, paint, etc); coating methods (brushing, rolling, and spraying); and coating materials (paints, varnishes, shellacs, etc). Must have the ability to use tools and equipment associated with the painting trade and to read and interpret directions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: (Must have 12 months) of experience or training which demonstrates the candidate's knowledge of any surface preparation and coating methods and techniques. Skill in building up, shaping, and leveling surfaces with metal and synthetic resins, plastics, and patching compounds; obtain finely smoothed surfaces with abrasive compounds, pumice, and rottenstone; even out dents and scars by burning-in processes; and treat surfaces with pre-coating agents.
