This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is a Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-08, position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston Operations Division Project Operations Branch, located in Wallisville, TX

Duties

Perform general maintenance and equipment operations carrying out assigned tasks involving the maintenance and repair of building structures, machinery, equipment, vessels, grounds, and components of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Apply general skills and knowledge of a variety of crafts and trades as they relate to the tasks assigned. Keeps interior and exterior of project buildings clean. Keep interior and exterior of project buildings clean. Performs routine maintenance such as painting, plumbing, electrical and carpentry work. Use hand and power tools such as hammers saws, drills, and grinders.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) - This position is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian drug testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
  • Must possess a Government Driver's License for the type of equipment operated, and know and understand the safety rules governing the operation of that equipment.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and meet the requirements of a pre-employment physical examination and must be able to meet the requirements of all subsequent physical examinations.
  • Incumbent must be able to maintain a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) to perform duties of position issued by the state of residence.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform simple maintenance and upkeep to public buildings, and/or recreational facilities. Performing simple plumbing components, and repair structures composed of wood or concrete. Replacing and maintaining such things as pipes, tile union joints, faucets, and drains. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: The work involves standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and sitting for prolonged time periods. Work involves light to heavy physical effort requiring the incumbent to physically handle objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed mostly out-of-doors, subject to hazards of darkness and inclement weather. Routinely works adjacent and/or over waterway. Works in close proximity to moving machinery and electrical equipment. The dams are located in isolated areas which will require extensive time out of the office. Position may require call back after duty hours and/or weekends.
