This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The U.S. Army Garrison - Natick's mission is to provide Natick, with the installation capabilities and services to support expeditionary operations in a time of persistent conflict, and to provide a quality of life for Soldier & Families commensurate with their service.

Duties

Perform the full range of task associated with the journeyman level pipefitter. Plan and lay out work utilizing blueprints or lay-out sketches when provided. Determine tools required and estimates necessary materials such as pipe, fittings, etc., in the sizes, types of lengths needed. Troubleshoots and analyses defects, locates and marks spots for openings in walls, ceilings, or floors. Performs tasks in connection with the fabrication, repair and maintenance of plumbing systems. Performs the full range of journeyman level plumbing tasks including estimating material requirements.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Pipefitter ~ without more than normal supervision. Performs the full range of task associated with the journeyman level pipefitter, typical of which are the following: Plans and lays out work utilizing blueprints or lay-out sketches. Determines tools required and estimates necessary materials such as pipe, fittings, in the sizes, types of lengths needed. Troubleshoots and analyses defects. Performs general repairs and replacement of new equipment, all types of plumbing and steam systems/equipment together with related work on controls, valves, traps, pumps, for the water, and sewage and water fixtures and facilities such as hydrants. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Makes repairs and installations from ladder, platforms and where systems or equipment worked on are in hard-to-reach places. Is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside or outside in all kinds of weather. Exposed to the possibility of burns from hot water and steam. Subject to strains, cuts and bruises, abnormal heat, dirt and dust. Subject to infection from unsanitary worksites. Subject to burns and inhalation of fumes from work with chemical piping and caustic soda. May be required to wear protective equipment. May be required to work in areas or on equipment exposed to toxic chemical, biological andradio logical materials. May be required to receive preventive inoculations.
