You will serve as an ARCHITECT in the Design Section of the NAS Patuxent River Public Works Department of NAVAL FAC ENGINEERING CMD WASH.

Duties

You will review detailed engineering design plans and specifications to verify they support architecture-engineering design efforts. You will assess the overall architecture to verify it meets established system requirements. You will analyze site requirements to develop facilities-related project plans. You will use computer aided design software, electrical engineering design software, and modeling software (e.g., AutoCAD) to complete design processes for architectural projects.

Qualifications

This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: Applicant must be registered as a current U.S. Professional Engineer or Architect at the GS-13 level only. (NOTE: You must include a copy of your current license/registration with your application.) GS-12: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Developing design drawings and specifications for new facilities or repair, restoration, and alteration of existing facilities using advanced architectural software such as AutoCAD, REVIT and/or Specs-In-Tact. 2) Participating in on-site analysis to collect data and develop scope for construction projects. 3) Resolving architectural construction and design issues encountered during the performance of facilities contracts; AND 4) Coordinating architectural designs with engineering disciplines to ensure compatibility and efficiency of design. GS-13: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Lead the production of construction documents for large and/or highly complex buildings, including architectural design drawings, plans, specifications, and design-build requests for proposal; 2) Review facilities construction submittals for conformance to the requirements of architectural contract drawings / specifications as well as requirements for state / local regulatory agencies; 3) Provide expertise and recommendations to other engineers and architects on complex, unusual architectural designs, issues, and situations; 4) Lead investigations and studies to formulate and present special reports and formal briefings concerning the status and adequacy of agency architectural and construction projects. Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Applicants must possess a bachelor's or higher degree in architecture; OR a bachelor's or higher degree in a field related to architecture that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems; OR a combination of college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. The curriculum for a degree in either architecture or architectural engineering cover's function, aesthetics, site, structure, economics, mechanical electrical, and other engineering problems related to the design and construction of buildings primarily (but not exclusively) intended to house human activities. Lacking lack a degree in architecture, you must have 1 year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in architecture that demonstrates that you have acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture. (Note - In the absence of college courses, 5 years of such experience is required).
