About the Position: The Yakima Training Center is a United States Army training center, used for maneuver training, Land Warrior system testing and as a live fire exercise area. It is a part of Joint Base Lewis-McChord. It comprises 327,000 acres of land, most of which consists of shrub-steppe, making it one of the largest areas of shrub-steppe habitat remaining in Washington state.
Duties
Independently load and unload materials to check, assemble, and process documents, and route materials and equipment for storage to correct locations.
Assemble or disassemble containers, such as checking and replacing environmental controls, attaching pads, positioning pads precisely and tightening to close tolerance for careful transportation of explosives and hazardous materials.
Perform the full range of warehousing duties involving receipt, storage, issue, shipment and surveillance operations to ensure the safe handling of ammunition and its components, powders, explosives and residue throughout the warehousing process.
Evaluate the condition and load limits of bridges, in scheduling weigh points, and traffic conditions and hazards locally and over long-distance routes in unfamiliar geographic areas to prevent incidences and accidents.
Follow oral or written job orders that indicate type and quantity of material destined for demolition.
Handle ammunition and explosive materials in a safe and proper manner to prevent loss of life, injury, and damage to property.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must obtain and maintain a Forklift Operators License within 30 days of employment.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment. This bands individual convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a two-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 20% of the time.
- Must obtain and maintain appropriate occupational training certification IAW AMCR 350-4, 49 CFR and FORSCOM 700-4 Training and Certification Program for personnel working in ammunition operations within 12 months after hire.
- Applicant must be cleared In Accordance With (IAW) requirements of AR 190-11. Physical Security of Arms, Ammunition and Explosives (AAE) (7281 Local Background Check).
- May be required to work overtime and other than normal duty hours which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Call back and emergency duty are regular requirements.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain a valid US Army Driver's License. In order to obtain a US Army Driver's license, you must be in possession of a valid state driver's license.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 70 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Munitions Handler without more than normal supervision performing common Munitions Handler duties such as receipt, storage, issue, shipment, surveillance operations, and movement of ammunitions and residue. I work under close supervision of a work leader of journey-level Munitions Handler who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Frequent bending, standing, walking. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing 60-70 pounds; occasionally handles heavier items.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works inside and outside in all types of weather to include extreme temperature ranges in summer and winter. Storage areas are unheated. Subject to cuts, bruises and sprains; possibility of more serious injuries from explosions.
