Duties
Identifies natural resources that could be impacted by park project activities and analyzes impacts and recommends mitigations or stipulations for project implementation.
Develops and conducts inventory and monitoring of natural resources that may be affected by park project activities. Resources include wildlife, vegetation, soils, water, air, geological, and paleontological.
Ensures project planning and implementation follows applicable federal regulations (i.e.- NEPA, Endangered Species Act, NHPA, ARPA, etc.). This includes following agency, departmental, and other applicable federal policies, and completing the necessary paperwork and final reports.
Coordinates with other park staff, stakeholders, and partners to ensure the appropriate level of project participation is involved in project planning and implementation. This may involve participating in meetings or initiating and leading them.
Plans and leads vegetation restoration of projects that may have affected park vegetation resources.
Physical Demands: The position may require strenuous physical activity including periods of standing, walking, climbing, and lifting and carrying heavy objects. Some activities will occur in physically dangerous areas or settings. Documentary research and report writing work is sedentary, entails the ability to concentrate and write for long periods of time.
Qualifications

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Provide course descriptions as necessary.

Basic Requirement:
GS-0408:
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in biology, or a related field of science underlying ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours in basic and applied biological sciences. These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours in ecology, and 12 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below.
Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-0408-09:
You must have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: develop and prepare plant ecology portions of resources management plans that requires the application of ecological principles; draft plant ecology specific resources action plans and strategies needed to successfully manage and protect natural ecosystems and environmental conditions; or prepare plant ecology related portions of environmental assessments (EA's) for projects in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act.
OR
GRADUATE EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least two years (36 semester hours or 54 quarter hours) of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Masters degree or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study directly related to the position to be filled (plant taxonomy, botany, plant ecology, etc.). NOTE: If qualifying with education, you must submit a copy of your college level transcripts. Failure to include your transcripts will make you ineligible for this position.
OR
COMBINATION: An equivalent combination of education and specialized experience (i.e., 6 months of specialized experience and 27 semester/41 quarter hours graduate credits directly related to the position).
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
