This position involves processing soiled laundry items and clean laundry items; repetitively sort bulk soiled laundry into prescribed classification lots by matching all garments and linens with correct symbols on bins.

Duties

Graceland, the second most-visited home in America, welcomes visitors from around the world who yearn for a peek into the life of "the King." Beyond the music, Tennessee's largest city also offers much more. It has more sunny days each year than Miami, and combines southern tradition and hospitality with modern amenities. You'll enjoy great dining (be sure to sample the barbecued ribs), art galleries and exciting nightlife. The VAMC in Memphis, TN consists of one main campus located at 1030 Jefferson Avenue, which includes a 60-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit, and nine community based outpatient clinics (CBOC). It is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level I Facility and one of the most complex medical centers in the VA system. Specialized outpatient services are provided through general, specialty, and subspecialty outpatient clinics including a women's health center. Services are available to more than 206,000 Veterans living in a 53-county tri-state area (Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi). The duties of the Laundry Worker include, but are not limited to: Loading and unloading linen into carts; delivering carts to designated areas Making adjustments when an adequate amount of linen is not available to meet each par level Performing housekeeping duties in the laundry area Preparing pajamas, scrub suits, etc., for distribution; assist in stocking the scrub x-ray machine Training new employees to ensure weekend soiled linen trailer is loaded, locked, and sealed properly Count stock and keep a record of distribution Adjust par levels to correspond to amount of linen sent from the contracted linen provider, and to adjust linen requests on weekends and holidays Meets the needs of customers while supporting the Medical Center and Service missions Work Schedule: 7:30AM - 4:00PM - days off will be determined by the needs of the service Position Description Title/PD#: Laundry Worker/PD50269A Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Continuous standing, walking, turning, bending, stooping and lifting at least 50 pounds is required. Must be dexterous with hands. Must be able to maneuver linen carts that weigh approximately 800 pounds. Inside and outside work subject to noise, hazards, movement of operating equipment and the possibility of working staggered hours or weekends as necessary. Worker is required to wear protective masks, gloves and gowns when working with contaminated linen items. Worker may be subject to some exposure to possible infections.
