The incumbent is the Foreman of the Maintenance and Repair Section and is responsible for the supervision of all personnel and activities assigned to the Engineering shops which encompasses the following trades: leader, pipefitting, electrical, mechanical equipment and associated systems.

Duties

*** Non-Bargaining Position *** Work assignments are by electronic work order, planned projects and oral instructions. The incumbent is responsible for reviewing work orders, programmed projects, and schedules developed by management. Incumbent conducts job site inspections, and determines what assignments can be accomplished concurrently or which should be delayed. Incumbent determines the number and types of employees required, considering the skills and personnel available, to accomplish the work. He/She determines equipment and manpower availability. Incumbent develops take-off materials and manpower requirements from shop drawings and other construction documents; initiates purchase requests and scheduling manpower needs. Incumbent plans immediate and long range work distribution and diverts employees and materials to accomplish emergency repairs. The incumbent makes work assignments and briefs subordinates on the work to be accomplished, establishes priorities, and conducts follow-up evaluation. Incumbent assigns employees according to craft and capabilities and advises and provides more detailed instructions in the case of more difficult assignments. Incumbent makes adjustments in planned assignments and procedures to mitigate slow-downs and /or work progress. Incumbent coordinates work activities with the person in charge of the area affected in order to minimize disruptions and delays. Incumbent coordinates work assignments with subordinate work leaders to accomplish same. Incumbent ensures work is completed to the satisfaction of the customer, safely, within budget and meeting time frames. The incumbent establishes the quantity and quality of performance standards and conducts spot checks to ensure that the proper procedures and workmanship are performed. Incumbent takes corrective measures where there are discrepancies, and motivates subordinates to operate as an effective working unit. Incumbent instructs new employees in the most current unit operating procedures. He/She assists with completion of Work Orders requiring advanced support to ensure optimal execution. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Physically, the Maintenance Supervisor is expected to be able to meet the following functional requirements: light lifting (15 pounds); light carrying (15 pounds); and walking (3 hours). Some work may require movement between offices, hospitals, warehouses, and similar areas for meetings and to conduct work. Work may also require walking/standing, in conjunctions with travel to and attendance at meetings and/or conferences away from the work site.
