The Painter position is in the Facilities Service at the Kansas City VA Medical Center. This position will require the incumbent to prepare surfaces, apply primer, and finish coats of paint, enamel, lacquer, and/or other protective liquid or semi-liquid products on wood, metal, masonry, or other material surfaces.

Duties

The major duties of this position include, but are not limited to: Incumbent performs: all painting and wall on walls, ceilings, woodwork, equipment and any other objects requiring painting. Incumbent uses accepted methods, techniques, and materials to obtain smooth textured and decorative surfaces and ensures that surface coating meets level and thickness requirements. Incumbent properly prepares surfaces painted. Incumbent tints, tones matches and blends coating materials, adds various agents and combines coating mixtures to obtain proper color consistency and drying state. Incumbent has a knowledge of all types of paints and their proper mixing and application Is completely familiar with the proper techniques involved in brush, roller, spray painting and wall covering installation. Incumbent determines the amount of materials required for specific jobs and possesses some creative skills in painting signs and installation. Incumbent Works under the direct supervision of the Building Supervisor Supervisor spot checks and inspects as work is in progress. All other decisions such as material requirements and methods used are made by incumbent but maybe superseded by supervisor. Additional duties as required. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00am -3:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Painter/PD1411A Physical Requirements: Incumbent may stand for prolonged periods and work on ladders and scaffolds occasionally lift material and equipment that weighs 40lbs or over. Working Conditions: Incumbent works with paint removers and paints in closed areas where fumes become concentrated. Also works in contaminated areas, mental patient wards, crawl spaces, tunnels on and atop smokestacks. Often works in areas when extensive masking must be done prior to painting because of permanent installations and fixtures. Work is performed inside and outside elements.
