Duties

-Executes visitor assistance and service programs. Patrols public lands and waters to prevent unauthorized use, trespass, and destruction of property and resources, ensure compliance with policies and regulations, and protect project land, water, and other environmental resources. -Develops interpretive program material of a historical, natural resources, or other project related nature. Conducts independent research of topics using sources such as records, books, files, and interviews with people who have personal knowledge of a particular site or event. -Assists the Natural Resource Specialist with plans for long-range environmental concerns of the lake and surrounding land area by collecting data regarding invasive species, directs volunteers in habitat and native plant restoration projects, provides expertise regarding nesting birds and seasonal waterfowl in regard to areas under development. -Assists with the execution of the Recreation Management Program at a lake project by issuing permits and monitoring permitted activities. -Provides guidance and advice to members of the team, to include lower graded Park Rangers and Volunteers. -Participates in a user fee program either as a fee collector, a designated collection officer's representative, or as a compliance inspector.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, the HR Office must be able to determine that you meet the education and/or specialized experience requirement - this information must be clearly supported in the resume. To qualify at the GS-05, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-04 level in federal service having demonstrated experience. Experience may have been in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, or other park related work. Experience that only includes law enforcement activities will not be considered qualifying as specialized experience. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include but are not limited to the following: Park guide or tour leader work; archeological or historical preservation research work; forestry and /or fire management work in a park, recreation or conservation area; management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations. These examples are not all inclusive. OR You could otherwise qualify on the basis of Education having 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with 24 semester hours of related course work. (NOTE: Copy of Transcripts is required at application) OR You may combine specialized experience and education to meet the minimum qualifications. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements, including any selective placement factors if applicable, by 08/22/2023.

Education

This vacancy announcement allows substituting education for experience at the GS-05 grade level. Applicants must submit a copy of college transcript(s) (unofficial copy is acceptable) to support claimed education if substituting education for experience. Transcripts must include the name of the college or university and date the degree was conferred. A typed list of courses, grades, semester/quarter hours, GPA, etc. will not be accepted.
