About the Position: This position is located at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Duties

Treat diseases of the dental pulp and peri-radicular tissues (performing root canal therapy). Serve as a recognized expert in the professional Dental Specialty of Endodontics in the delivery of dental care. Perform duties that involve the morphology, physiology and pathology of the human dental pulp and peri-radicular tissues. Examine, diagnose, treat and/or prevent diseases of the tooth root, dental pulp, and surrounding tissue, and the related practice of root canal therapy. Complete all necessary diagnostic measures during a dental examination including oral cancer screening to devise a comprehensive treatment plan. Accurately identify and examine diagnostic radiographs to be used in the formulation of an appropriate treatment plan. Provide instruction on dental care, administer anesthetics, prescribes medications, and conducts oral health counseling.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
• A pre-placement medical examination is required.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
• Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
• Moderate to heavy lifting up to 15 pounds is required.
• This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.

Basic Requirement for Dentist (Endodontics): Education: Applicants must possess a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Residency: Applicants must have successfully completed an advanced specialty postgraduate residency program approved by the American Dental Association (ADA), or accepted equivalent program, in Endodontics. Experience and/or Education Required: A. Applicants must have completed a 3-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science. OR B. Applicants must have three years of professional dentistry experience and/or training, equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-12). OR C.Applicants must have completed a residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science AND professional dentistry experience and/or training equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-12). When combining residency program and professional dentistry experience and/or training to qualify, the total must be equal to or greater than three years. Note for Qualifying Experience: Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position. For specialty dentistry positions, experience, education, board certification, and/or training must clearly establish the applicant's status as a specialist in Endodontics. Medical Requirement: Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color.
