About the Position: This position serves as a news reporter/staff writer/photographer, working in a team-oriented environment to produce products showcasing the members of the entire command and down trace units with duty in Kuwait. Gathers information and prepares stories that informs deployed and CONUS communities about local and national events that have an impact on the command. It
is located at 1st Theater Sustainment Command, Fort Knox, KY.
Duties
Investigate story leads and news tips, research information, observes on the scene and interviews key people involved in the development of the story.
Edit materials submitted by down trace units that may be used for internal and/or external publications.
Explore possible external market opportunities for stories and articles that have been developed for internal purposes.
Explore the use of a broad range of creative, informative print and electronic products in support of organizational communication objectives particularly for release on the World Wide Web.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

- Position requires you to be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Must be willing and able to perform work in the unit?s forward deployed HQ in Kuwait.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a no-fee Special Issuance Passport (SIP) and associated visa while assigned to a Federal civilian position in an area requiring a passport and associated visa.
- Position requires you to be willing and able to pass a pre-deployment physical.
- Position requires you to be willing to travel temporarily away from their normal duty station up to 25% of the time.
- This position is designated as a Key Position IAW AR 690-11 and shall not be vacated during national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.
- Civilians in key positions must be exempted from recall to active duty because of Reserve or retired military obligations.
- Understand and acknowledge if currently serving as a member of the Reserves or National Guard for any branch of the U.S. Armed Services you may NOT volunteer or be in a deployable status in order to obtain and maintain this position.
- Position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the requirement has previously been met.

Experience Required:
To qualify based on your work experience, the resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience developing a variety of informational materials in accordance with public affairs guidance, regulations, and policies. Experience gathering information by attending events, taking notes and/or photos or arranging for photos of a variety of post or community events and activities, researching previous events or activities, conducting interviews, and clipping articles from outside new sources. Experience conducting informational research to obtain information, such as purpose or theme; event time and location; size and type of audience; personal information on dignitaries and honored guests; available background, historical information, and literature; availability and limitations of facilities and/or equipment; etc. Coordinates projects/events with appropriate points of contacts and offices. Experience writing, rewrites, or edits information as required to synthesize it into proper form or format for dissemination through such media, i.e., as news, human interest, or feature items for publication or broadcast.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-07).
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience to qualify. For this position at the GS-09 grade level you must possess:
A Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.
