Duties
Serve as a Health Statistician in DHA?s Financial Operations Directorate.
Perform high level, complex analysis in support of organizational and budget planning and MTF business operations.
Organize, analyze, and interpret highly specialized health data from worldwide Military Health System medical, personnel and financial databases.
Select sources of appropriate data and adapt existing systems accordingly.
Use detailed logic and understanding of the interactions of data elements to select, adapt, and apply a variety of techniques and formulae which frequently involve multiple, interrelated variables.
Evaluate available, generalized computer programs to determine applicability in providing the desired selection of related data elements, statistical computations, analyses, and output format.

Basic Requirement for Statistician (Health):
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc.

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: working as a statistician in the Military Health System; analyzing statistical information; and organizing data from health care systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
