This position is located in United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Midwest Area, located in Ames, IA. In this position, you will support the supervisor and the staff by relieving them of various administrative and clerical duties and allowing them to focus on the organization's primary mission.

Duties

Sets up meetings, planning sessions and conferences, and prepares and disseminates research plans, reports, and other information to participants. Makes necessary arrangements for travel, including arranging schedule of visits, making reservations, notifying organizations and officials to be visited, and submitting travel vouchers and reports. Coordinates team meetings, including developing the agenda, taking and distributing notes, keeping a file of action items, and tracking progress. Maintains calendar and schedules appointments for the supervisor with authority to commit supervisor's time based on knowledge of his/her interests, commitments, and work schedule.

Requirements

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. GS-06 Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience using office automation software packages and equipment to type, edit, and format letters, memoranda, reports, manuscripts, research documents, or forms; maintaining an office calendar and scheduling meetings for a supervisor; and establishing and maintaining an office filing system(s). All applicant must be able to type 40 words per minute. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
