Duties
This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of two years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service.
This is a TERM position NTE to exceed 13 months up to 2 years.
The National Park Service retains the right to extend the duration of this appointment after selection and/or appointment, based on changes to the regulation governing the number of years term appointments may last. This change, which may be made at the agency's sole discretion and without further competition, shall not be construed or interpreted as the granting of a right to a selectee or employee to such an extension. No extension to a term appointment shall be granted to a selectee/employee to an amount of time that exceeds the maximum number of years authorized under any present or current regulation, unless such regulation expressly allows such action.
Major Duties: Performs labor and custodial duties including cleaning offices, public restrooms and other areas, collecting and transporting garbage, and cleaning floors and carpets. Performs minor carpentry repairs using simple measures and hand tools on such tasks as replacing broken planks on picnic tables, replacing broken windows, minor adjustments or replaces hinges, latches and catches. Performs minor painting using brushes and rollers. Performs minor plumbing repairs such as tightening or replacing fittings and fixtures, replacing faucet washers, and unplugs drains. Receives, unloads and processes incoming shipments. Operates riding and small power mowers, gas powered weed eaters, and grounds hand tools such as rakes, pole pruners, hand pruners, and shovels. Operates a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites. Maintains tools and equipment according to instructions and performance of basic operator maintenance on park vehicles, grounds maintenance equipment, and other power equipment, making minor repairs as needed. Operates a forklift to load and unload supplies and light equipment. Maintains daily records of work and hours. Assists higher graded maintenance workers or tradesmen in the performance of their work.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
1. Ability to do work of a Maintenance Worker WG-4749-6, without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT)
2. Ability to interpret specifications instructions and performance including blueprints.
3. Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
4. Knowledge of Equipment, Assembly and Installation repair etc.
5. Technical Practices
6. Use of measuring Instrument
7. Knowledge of materials
