Duties
You will prepare written reports, containing descriptions, causes, and recommeded corrective actions.
You will draft technical presentations.
You will work as a team member to conduct condition assessments for mechanical utility systems.
You will collect, calculate, compile, and evaluate equipment performance data.
You will conduct tests. investigations, and studies of systems to include automatic, manual operation of pumping equipment, tanks, ancillary equipment, etc.

Qualifications
In addition to the basic education requirement:
For the GS-12: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Provide engineering support to operate, maintain and alter mechanical utility systems and provide customer support; 2) Incumbent has technical responsibility for assigned project work in connection with the provision of adequate mechanical utility service; 3) Serves as the technical expert and advisory authority for mechanical utility issues; and 4) Prepares detailed schedules for flow of work, monitors contracts in progress, anticipates potential problems and takes appropriate corrective action.
For the GS-11: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Provide project management and technical engineering support for mechanical utility systems; 2) Collect, compile, calculate, and analyze equipment performance data. Investigate utility systems for capabilities and deficiencies and perform root cause analysis for outages; 3) Assist in the development of short- and long-range plans and projects to repair and improve the mechanical utility systems; and 4) Prepare correspondence, reports, and prepare and present technical oral presentations.
For the GS-09 Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Provides mechanical engineering technical support systems; 2) Develops project scopes of work and government estimates and life cycle cost analysis. 3) Reviews project designs and provides comments; 4) Prepare reports and provide data on the commodity, such as, but not limited to, performance indicators; 5) Analyze performance standards and identifies trends for the commodities; and 6) Identify and coordinate the collection of data or other resources from local, state, or federal agencies, industry agencies and organizations, for purposes of benchmarking performance standards.

Education
Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the
Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
