Duties

You will begin calibrate electrical components (e.g., watt hour meters, amp meters, synchroscopes, electro-mechanical relays, micro-processor relays) to test equipment. You will complete inspections and preventative maintenance on electrical distribution systems. You will locate faults in underground cables using specific instruments (e.g., insulation meggers, high potential testers) for corrective action. You will work with hand tools and measuring devices related to electrical work. You will bend conduit and install breakers or switches while completing high voltage electrician tasks.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States drivers license.
  • May be required to obtain and maintain current licenses to operate Folk Lift, High Lift (JLG), Bucket Truck and/or construction equipment.
  • This position requires mandatory CPR certification.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • The incumbent serving in this position may at any time assigned to a similar position at any site or workstation within the commuting area as a condition of employment.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of an HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN without more than normal supervision:1) Performing preventative maintenance on high voltage electrical distribution systems, circuits, and equipment; 2) Reading, interpreting, and analyzing electrical drawings, blueprints, schematics, circuit diagrams, sketches and manufacturers' specifications to diagnose problems in electrical systems; 3) Checking transformer operating temperatures and voltage at secondary terminals and make repairs to defective, loose, or corroded connections; 4) Utilizing hand and power tools to repair and test electrical systems.
