The Plumber position is located Engineering Service of the Columbia VA Health Care System, Veterans Health Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, Columbia, SC.
Duties
Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Completes the routing and placement of system leading to the equipment; and seats, hooks up, and tests the equipment.
Installs, modifies, and repairs new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution system, and water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems, and showers.
Installs, modifies, and repairs systems by locating and tapping main lines setting up system routes; placing and cutting route openings; placing hangers for proper level and slope; and determining and installing valves, traps, and unions needed for proper operation of systems.
Works from building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out the routing, placement, slant, slope, fall, and proper operation of systems and equipment.
Plans and lays out the installation and modification of various systems and equipment such as the routing, openings, slant, and level of gas and water lines, and the location and arrangement of water closets, sinks, and fire sprinkler equipment.

Work Schedule: Specific shift and tour to be determined at time of selection by selecting official.
Monday - Friday;
1st Shift 7:00am - 3:30pm
2nd Shift 2:30pm - 11:00pm
3rd Shift Midnight - 8:30am

Qualifications

PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and in hard-to-reach places. This requires the employees to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and in uncomfortable positions. The plumbing worker frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to forty (40lbs) pounds.

WORK CONDITIONS:The work is usually performed indoors under dirty, dusty, and greasy conditions. The plumbing worker is sometimes required to make repairs and installations outside in bad weather; occasionally makes repairs in areas where bad smelling fumes are present; experiences occasional exposure to the possibility of broken bones; and has frequent exposure to the possibility of scrapes, burns, and infections.
