About the Position: Works under the supervision of the Brigade Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) in the Sexual Harassment/Assault Response & Prevention (SHARP) program, who provides guidance on program policies and objectives. Incumbent is expected to work independently within established program guidelines and keeps the SARC/SHARP supervisor informed of program status and unusual or controversial situations.
Duties
Provide professional and comprehensive advocacy services to individuals exhibiting a wide variety of issues related to being a victim or survivor of sexual harassment or sexual assault.
Conduct assessments with clients to determine required needs and evaluate safety and levels of risk.
Assess the urgency of cases and develop a plan for assistance.
Develop and implement an appropriate plan of action in crisis situations.
Accompany victims and provide support in securing medical treatment for injuries; safe shelter; protective orders; court hearings; support before, during and after trials; appointments; educational services; transportation; and financial services.
Refer victims to other community services as required to include hotline services and individual support to victims at the point of service.
Serve on the Sexual Assault Review Board (SARB).
Coordinate professional and support services for victims with service support and community organizations and agencies - law enforcement, Staff Judge Advocate, legal aid, medical treatment facilities, and crime victim's compensation offices.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Incumbent may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
- This position is designated as Emergency Essential: Incumbent of an overseas position or who would be sent overseas during a crisis situation; position ensures success of combat operations or supports essential combat systems after a mobilization.
- Incumbent will be required to undergo an initial and annual physical due to E-E position.
- Incumbent may be required to travel up to 20% to perform duties/attend training.
- This position requires you to submit a Public Financial Disclosure Report (OGE 278) or a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE450) upon entry, and annually thereafter.
- Incumbent may be required to work shifts/weekends.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driving license.
- Incumbent must successfully complete the 80-hr SHARP course and obtain DoD certification within 6-months of appointment.
- Incumbent will be screened by the National Sex Offender Registry.
- Incumbent will be screened by the Crime Records Center and the Army Central Registry for a history of domestic violence.

BASIC REQUIREMENT: Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
Specialized experience: To qualify, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level (GS-07). Specialized experience is defined as: Providing professional advocacy services to victims or survivors of sexual assault and sexual harassment; conducting assessments with clients to evaluate needs and risks; recognizing the need for professional intervention and referring to appropriate services; maintaining partnerships in the community, and conducting training/seminars on sexual assault/sexual harassment.
Education: To qualify based on education in lieu of specialized experience, applicants must possess a completed master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the GS-09 grade level, and may be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at that grade level. (When crediting education that requires specific course work, prorate the number of hours of related courses required as a proportion of the total education to be used.)
