This position will support the Federal Government's response efforts to COVID-19. This position is located in the clinical department of the Taos-Picuris Service Unit (TPSU), Taos, New Mexico. The TPSU provides a full range of medical, dental, and community health services on an outpatient basis to approximately 2,500 Taos- Picuris community members. This position provides primary health care to individuals and families within the Taos-Picuris communities and reports to the Clinical Director.

Duties

Provide direct care and services to pediatric, geriatric, adolescent, and adult patients. Provide comprehensive therapeutic and preventative health services to individual patients, family members, and patient groups. Assess, diagnose needs, and set up a plan of action to meet identified needs. Apply practitioner skills in all phases of health care services. Make decisions concerning medical needs of patients independently or with physicians and designated consultants. Work collaboratively with other providers and outside consultants on more complex cases or cases requiring specialty care or contract health services. Provide counseling, guidance, and health instructions to patients, families, and groups. Secure a health and developmental history from the patient or parent; record findings and make critical evaluation. Initiate patient history and physical examination. Order and interpret laboratory testing and other diagnostic studies. Maintain health records in accordance with established policy. Provide lifesaving and support measures in emergency situations. Routine duties shall include providing medical care and public health services to individuals eligible for services provided by the Indian Health Service in homes, schools, clinics, job sites, and other community locations within the Taos-Picuris Service Unit. Participate in activities of the clinic and attend medical staff committee meetings and functions. This position is being readvertised to solicit additional applications. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions, applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. Areas of specialty for this position is Family. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. Basic Requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) Grade Level: In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; OR At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program. Examples of professional nursing experience for GS-11 include work as an independent practitioner providing direct and comprehensive primary, preventive and therapeutic medical and nursing care to patients. Assignments at this level are progressively more difficult, in order to expand diagnostic and therapeutic skills, with supervisor or senior employee providing assistance on unusual problems. Basic Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) Grade Level: In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must: have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level. Examples of professional nursing experience for GS-12 include: work as an independent practitioner providing comprehensive primary and/or specialty care for patients; provide direct and comprehensive primary, preventive and therapeutic medical and nursing care for patients, as well as counseling and/or coordinating services and participating with other disciplines in reviewing the program. Taking case histories, conducting physical examinations, and ordering laboratory studies during clinic visits. May carry out special procedures such as giving injections or other medication, apply or change dressing, perform lumbar punctures, or suture minor laceration. The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
