You will serve as a MACHINIST LEADER (NUCLEAR) in the Mechanical Shop (Code 930) Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901) Production Resources Department of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will ensure safe work practices and good housekeeping while assuring timely tool equipment, material, and procedure availability. You will utilize information from blueprints, sketches and work documents, to plan the sequence of work tasks. You will maintain close observation of all work operations. You will lead other nuclear machinists in the overhaul and repair of various types of marine equipment.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE Experience applying trade theory and techniques in order to lead journeyman mechanics through instruction and demonstration of work methods. Experience understanding the various components, tanks and systems associated with naval submarines and surface ships.
