About the Position: This position is with the DHA Southwest Georgia Market at the Martin Army Community Hospital, Fort Moore Georgia, performing a variety of specialized tasks to assist the Podiatrist in the Directorate of Surgery, Podiatry Service. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Assist podiatrist in the examination and treatment of patients and perform treatments as directed. Assist with positioning patients and layout of required instruments and supplies. Treat simple foot problems, administrate topical medications, change/apply dressings and perform scrub on wounds. Assist Podiatrist in performing surgery in the Operating Room. Maintain medical and administrative supplies. Prepare sterilization solutions, maintains the bedding and medical equipment in treatment rooms and/or surgical operatory. Initiate request for X-rays, lab tests, and special studies as directed by the podiatrist. Prepare medications for injections under direct physician supervision.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must hold a current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS)Certification that is sponsored/endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). Current Advance Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • This position is covered by Health Affairs Policy 97006, 23 Oct 96 the position requires the employee to obtain Hepatitis B immunizations and Tuberculin testing unless exempt by physician.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirements: Applicant resume must show support duties to medical or health personnel in Podiatry. Therefore, technician experience is experience that requires the application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of a Health Technician (Podiatry). OR Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in the subjects directly related to Podiatry. Minimum Requirements: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes work that involves demonstrated experience in 1) Applying treatment equipment and devices (e.g., splints, casts, crutches and other medical devices); 2) Assisting with initiating requests, such as X-rays, lab tests and special studies as directed by the podiatrist; and 3) assisting in preparing medications for injections under direct physician supervision.
