The Battle Creek, MI VA Medical Center is seeking a highly qualified regular full time Staff Dentist.

Duties

Dentists appointed to the Battle Creek VA Medical Center and assigned to the Dental Service are independent licensed practitioners who hold a full and unrestricted license to practice in any state. Dentists will be graduates of an ADA accredited dental school and where applicable, will be graduates of an accredited residency in the applicable dental specialty. Dentist providers are Staff Dentists or Staff Dental Specialists and report to the Chief, Dental Service. The duties, roles, and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following: Dentist providers will perform only those procedures for which they hold privilege as granted by the Battle Creek VA Medical Center. Dentist providers provide direct patient care for inpatients and outpatients in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting as assigned. Further, dentist providers provide consultative services for patients referred from other outpatient services/clinics, inpatient wards and/or urgent care/emergent care areas of the VA Medical Center or Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). Dentist providers are responsible for providing dental care for patients of a variety of age groups and medical conditions. Dental providers will be proficient in diagnosis, restorative procedures, removable and fixed prosthodontic procedures, periodontal procedures, endodontic procedures, exodontia, minor oral surgical procedures, and implantology. Dentists will have a practical working knowledge of pharmacology and dental management of medical diagnoses. Dentist providers may be assigned administrative duties. Qualifications

Dentist Basic Requirements A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~ Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. DENTAL STAFF REQUIREMENT Staff Dentist. An individual that demonstrates the ability in the field of general dentistry or a dental specialty who is employed to perform the duties related to various professional activities of patient care and treatment without supervision. In addition to meeting the basic requirements, applicants must demonstrate ability in the general practice of dentistry; be capable of assisting in maintaining accepted standards of professional care in VA facilities; and be capable of accepting full responsibility for the proper care and treatment of assigned patients. Physical Requirements: Per VA Directive and Handbook 5019 - a physical examination will be conducted based on the physical requirements of the position. A physical examination prior to placement is required. Physician applicants must have the mental and physical ability to perform core privileges required by the specialty position in addition to any specialty privileges requested. Position requires walking, bending, stooping, light lifting (under 15 pounds), light carrying (under 15 pounds), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, both legs required, walking (2 hours), standing (2 hours), ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, both eyes required, near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors, ability to distinguish shades of colors, Hearing (aid may be permitted), working alone, working closely with others, and protracted or irregular hours of work. Light carrying, under 15 pounds; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; both eyes required; depth perception; ability to distinguish basic colors; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aid permitted); mental and emotional stability.
