About the position: This position will be assigned to the Child and Youth Services Flight on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. This is a Regular Part Time position 20-40 hours. As a Regular employee, you are eligible to earn annual leave, sick leave and sign up for benefits to include Health/Dental and Life Insurance, 401(k) and NAF Retirement.

Duties

Using a full range of quantity cooking procedures from common or frequently used to new or difficult recipes, over a period of time prepares a variety of meats, poultry, seafood, vegetables, sauces and gravies. On a day-to-day basis, prepares four or more menu items for one meal which involves planning and coordinating steps to ensure that all items are ready for serving at the same time; or prepares menu items using special or difficult recipes involving many steps, ingredients, or long preparation time; or may do both. Prepares and presents food so that it is visually appealing to customers. Examine all food for quality and freshness before preparation. May make adjustments or substitutions in food preparation procedures and seasoning to make the food more attractive and to improve taste. May test and evaluate new food products. Performs other related duties as assigned. Skill and Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of food preparation and characteristics of foods. Skill to plan, coordinate and time sequence steps needed to prepare entire meals on time without overcooking or waste. Ability to adjust recipes for servings required, substitutions and seasoning; recognize characteristics of foods in deciding that raw materials are fresh; and judge prepared food by color, consistency, temperature, odor and taste. Physical Effort: Frequently lifting objects weighing up to 40 pounds, constant standing and walking, and occasionally lifting over 40 pounds. Continual standing, walking, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing and bending. Working Conditions: Works in hot and noisy kitchens. Exposed to steam, fumes and odors. Danger of falling, burns and cuts. Exposed to extreme temperatures when entering walk-in refrigerators or freezer units. Requirements

  • This position has physical lifting requirement which requires the incumbent to complete a favorable pre-employment physical.
  • This position requires the incumbent to complete assigned training, to include Food Handlers certification, within specified time from date hire or assignment to position.
  • This position requires satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks in accordance with Air Force and DoD policy, and a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain, maintain, and provide evidence of current immunizations this includes annual influenza vaccinations and be free of all communicable diseases.

Qualifications

Must be able to plan, coordinate, and time sequence steps needed to prepare entire meals on time without overcooking or waste. Must be able to adjust recipes for servings required, substitutions and seasoning; recognize characteristics of foods in deciding that raw materials are fresh; and judge prepared food by color, consistency, temperature, odor and taste. Experience and knowledge must have been gained in a restaurant, club, cafeteria, or similar establishment. Must be physically able to frequently lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally over 40 pounds. Must be able to continuously stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull and bend for long periods of time. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate and/or complete food handler's training. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution in order to qualify.
