The Electrician Supervisor serves under the direct supervision of the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Supervisor of the Engineering Service at the St. Albans VA Medical Center in Queens, NY
Duties
Major Duties include but are not limited to;
Organize and direct assigned resources, determine maintenance requirements, forecast material and manpower requirements and schedule shutdowns with minimal inconvenience to patients and staff.
Plan for maintenance, repair and preventative maintenance of all underground, aboveground, interior and exterior electrical distribution and lighting systems.
Evaluate maintenance needs in terms of available manpower and materials.
Install, repair, test, fabricate, troubleshoot or modify the complete range of internal and external electrical supply systems, power sources and distribution facilities, shop facilities and equipment, power control and supply systems for motors, emergency generators, industrial equipment and machinery, alarm and communication systems, and street lighting.
Prepare preventative maintenance procedures and ensure completion and documentation; maintain work orders and preventative maintenance inspection reports for all assigned equipment.
Organize the work of subordinates; assigns work orally and through work orders; determine work priorities and assignments.
Lay out work to complete assignment to electrical systems, fixtures, and equipment.
Apply knowledge of makeup, operation and installation of a wide variety of electrical systems, fixtures, and equipment.
Perform preventative maintenance on all types and voltages of switches, receptacles, lighting, magnetic starters, contractors, relays and motors.
Bend and thread conduits, repair portable tools and appliances; install and wire small and larger motors on all types of systems.
Install electrical parts such as relay switches, mercury switches, rheostats, resistance coil, and solenoid.
Determine type, size, balance, load and proper and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls.
Troubleshoot and analysis of electrical systems and equipment to be installed or repaired; execute repairs, modifications and preventative maintenance work.
Repair electrical wiring systems, lighting systems, motors, ice machines, and other electrical equipment.
Apply advanced electrical principles, materials, and safety standards to complete assignments.
Plan, layout and complete the installation, modification and repair of various electrical systems.
Determine the type, size, balance, load, and proper/safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls.
Repair and maintain equipment utilizing a wide range of voltages on all secondary systems, from single phase 110 volts thru 3 phase 480 volts.
Apply information in maintenance and repair manuals.
Use diagrams and schematics; use blueprints, drawings and sketches.
Interprets and applies building plans, blue prints, wiring diagrams and drawings to survey work areas.
Follow supervisory instructions to accomplish tasks.
Read written instructions in work orders.
Make own sketches to plan work projects; prepare engineering specifications.
Troubleshoot electrical systems, elevators, automated doors and conveyors.
Repair electrical wiring systems, lighting systems, motors, ice machines, and other electrical equipment.
Design electrical systems, prepare sketches and estimates.
Modify existing electrical systems; Repair various electrical systems; Install new electrical systems.
Determine and differentiate the necessary material and methods required for troubleshooting.
Diagnose complex electrical systems and plan corrective action.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The Electrician Supervisor frequently makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding and platforms and where the parts of the systems and equipment worked on are in hard-to-reach places. This requires him or her to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
The Electrician Supervisor frequently handles, lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weighs up to thirty-five (35) pounds. Occasionally, may lift and carry items that weigh over seventy-five (75) pounds. The work is performed in all areas of the medical center environment, including general, medical, and inpatient units, inside and outside, and is often dirty, dusty, and greasy. He or she is sometimes required to make repairs and installations outside in bad weather and in work areas that are noisy. He or she is occasionally exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shock and burns. He or she is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises.
