This position serves as a Human Resources Assistant providing a variety of Human Resources (HR) management support services. The incumbent contributes to the Northern Plains Regional Human Resources mission by providing administrative and technical support in two or more specialty areas.
Duties
Works with internal and external customers in the full range of HR duties such as application, disposition of files, new employee orientation, and HR rules, regulations, and laws.
Tracks HR related suspense dates, ensures personnel actions are processed and completed, obtains signatures from managers and other HR staff.
Manages human resources and personnel related records to include internal and external records, archive records, requesting of information, OPM requests, transferring of files and records, and receipt of files.
Applies HR principles and accepted methods to resolve a variety of routine problems, questions, or situations in support of programs.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-04: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of general experience which demonstrates your ability to perform the work of this position at the GS-4 grade level. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to perform the work of this position. Or, successfully completed 2 years of education above the high school level.
GS-5: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provides technical and administrative support to various clients and customers; obtains missing data from files or the appropriate office; assists in preparing paperwork related to actions;reviews finished forms for completeness and adequacy; contacts employees or supervisors to answer and resolve questions; provides information on systems, processes and procedures. Or, successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level.
GS-6: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Performs a wide variety of clerical administrative procedures for a human resources department; researches and applies applicable HR rule, regulation, policy or procedure to complete assigned project; provides alternative approaches to resolve problems and complaints and provides appropriate employee referrals; prepares and finalizes specific correspondence; utilizes HR software and automated systems to generate reports and track actions.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
