This position is located in the Radiology Department, Division of Clinical Service, at the Kayenta Health Center, Kayenta, AZ. The primary purpose of this position is to perform technical work in the field of diagnostic radiologic examinations. Incumbent will be required to be on a rotational on-call schedule.
Duties
Performs computerized radiography with GE Proteus XRJa equipment and operates teleradiology equipment andPAC's equipment and all standard diagnostic x-ray procedures.
Receives patient, explains methods of procedure, positions patient and makes exposures necessary for requestedexamination. Independently makes standard examinations.
Confers with Radiologists to establish requirements of nonstandard examinations and determines technical factors,positioning, number and exposure factors, etc., to satisfy requirements.
Schedules patients for examinations; Evaluates the nature of critical and emergency procedures; rearranges patientpriorities for accommodation purposes; maintains records of patients treated, examinations performed and imagestaken; maintains permanent record of examinations by entering proper information into Radiology InformationSystem. Performs appropriate clerical filing and maintains orderly records as needed;
Advises radiologist or referring physician of results of examination and provides them with a preliminary diagnosticevaluation; notifies them of significant findings requiring their immediate attention and visualization while patient isundergoing examination.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (1) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements:
(1) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.
(2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency.
Specialized Experience For positions at GS-4 and above: Experience in the operation of diagnostic radiology equipment under the direction of radiologists or other medical officers to produce radiographic studies used in medical diagnosis and treatment.

Education and Training: Qualifying educational programs for radiography and radiation therapy technology are available in accredited colleges, universities, hospitals, medical schools, or postsecondary technical or vocational schools. Education or training from programs based in hospitals must have been from those hospitals that were accredited at the time of the education or training by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals or by the American Osteopathic Association.
For GS-5:Successful completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months' duration in a post-high school radiography program. Successful completion of a course for medical radiologic technicians in the Armed Forces is qualifying on a month-for-month basis up to the l year of specialized experience required for GS-5.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-05: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level. Examples of Specialized Experience: Producing digital images of routine views of the body (i.e., chest, joints, feet, hands, long bones of arms and legs) under general supervision of a Radiologist.
GS-06: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level. Examples of Specialized Experience: Perform a variety of difficult radiographic examinations; Receive patient, explain method of procedure, position patient, select and set technical factors, set up and adjust accessory equipment required, and make exposures necessary for the requested procedure.
GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level. Examples of Specialized Experience: Perform a variety of difficult radiographic examinations. Independently make routine radiographic examinations of head, trunk, and extremities for diagnosis of illness or injuries; prepare and administer contrast material. Schedule patients for examinations. Maintain logs of patients and procedures used. Prepare file jackets on patients X-rays.
GS-08: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level. Examples of Specialized Experience: Perform computerized axial tomographic scanning of heads and/or bodies; advises radiologist or referring physical of results of examination, provide preliminary diagnostic evaluation. Prepares contrast material for purpose of performing procedure/exams requiring injectable solutions such as Intravenous Pyelogram, Cystograms, Cholangiograms, Fistulagrams, Arthograms and Myelograms.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
