About the Position: This position is located at the Logistics Readiness Center at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. Fort Wood is located in the beautiful South-Central Missouri Ozarks. The Fort covers more than 61,000 acres and is located in Pulaski County, Missouri. Bordering the installation to the North are the towns of Waynesville/St. Robert and Interstate 44. St. Louis is a 2 hour drive to the East along I-44 and Springfield is a little more than an hour's drive to the West of Fort Leonard Wood.

Duties

Operate heavy load tractor-trailer vehicles. Operate vehicle's auxiliary pumping system to regulate the pumping pressure. Operate tractor-trailers and in-line trucks typically with a GVW of over 32,000 pounds as required. Read maps and judge road/traffic conditions to determine the shortest and safest route. Perform operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing of vehicles, and performing inspection checklists to ensure safe and proper operation. Operate vehicles on public roads in a full range of traffic conditions and at highway speeds to transport cargo and passengers.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess and be able to maintain a Class A Commercial Driver?s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will participate in drug urinalysis testing.
  • Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign DA Form 5019 (Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical Under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program)
  • and DA Form 7412 (Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions identified safety-sensitive under the Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration rules on drug and alcohol testing).
  • DA Form 5019 and DA Form 7412 require participation in random drug testing as a condition of employment.
  • Incumbent is subject to a medical clearance examination prior to employment. This position may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.

Work requires reaching, turning or moving hands, arms, feet and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Associated duties require stooping, bending and climbing. Lifts and carries objects weighing up to 40 pounds and heavier objects with assistance. Must be able to climb into tractor cab safely. Working Conditions: Drivers work mostly outside and operate vehicles in all kinds of traffic and weather on public roads (or equivalent) and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Drivers are exposed to dirt, fumes and to the possibility of cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of accidents when loading and unloading the vehicle. They drive in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems.
