The incumbent of this position functions as Chief of Staff and expert advisor to the Director, NCATS (National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences), with responsibility for providing expertise, advice, and counsel to the Director and other senior NCATS officials on high priority translational science research issues and projects requiring Agency-wide and interdepartmental coordination, along with integration of the Director's goals.
Duties
Provides senior level advice and consultation to the Director to collaborate and assist in the planning, development, implementation, and integration of NCATS (National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences) programs and policies.
Ensures that programs, projects, and policies get completed in a timely manner that is consistent with Institute and Agency strategic plans, goals, and objectives, in support of the NCATS Plan.
Undertakes highly complex and sensitive assignments for the Director involving issues that have major implications for programs.
Participates in top-level Institute, Agency, departmental, and inter-agency discussions and decision meetings on policy and program development.
Assesses program feasibility and resource distribution decisions and orchestrates the development of special initiative outcomes, delivery timetables, and assessment instruments.
Interprets and communicates the Director?s objectives and directives, and represents the Director as required, speaking with the full authority of the Director both inside and outside the Institute.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications
In order to qualify for a Chief of Staff, GS-0601-15 position you must meet the following requirements:
Minimum Requirement: You must have successfully completed a full 4 year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a Bachelor's degree or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.
Additional Requirements: In order to qualify for a Chief of Staff, GS-0601 position at the GS -15 level, you must demonstrate in your resume at least one 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Implementing strategies related to management issues, and resource allocation to a research organization; setting agendas for weekly senior staff meetings, and developing policies and procedures related to project planning and funding requests; and providing guidance on differences in strategic direction, policy interpretations, and other conflicting and precedent-setting issues; advising and consulting with management officials on the science policy and direction of an organization.
