Duties

The incumbent serves as a security specialist, performing duties related to the physical protection of personnel, facilities, and assets against criminal, terrorist, or hostile activities. This includes the assessment of and planning for assigned security programs, which affects operational readiness, safety, and security of facilities/technical systems within ATC security operations. This position starts at a salary of $64,957.00 (GS-09, Step 1) to $84,441.00 (GS-09, Step 10) with promotion potential to $102,166.00 (GS-11 Step 10). In this position, you will be performing the below duties such as: Performing physical security inspections, preparing reports, presenting briefings, identifying vulnerabilities, assessing risks to personnel and property based on threat levels, required security measures, techniques and methods. Providing advice on the appropriate use of security equipment and devices including fencing variations, alarm and detection devices, closed circuit televisions, locking devices for doors, windows, vaults and gates, etc. Assisting in the tracking, maintaining and inventorying of key and electronic key cards. Reviewing security logs and reports, holding daily meetings to gain information related to daily Campus patrol operations, overall campus security, building or access breaches, security vulnerabilities, trespassing, etc. Assisting in the training of new federal, state/local laws, and ATC Campus regulations. Assisting in the development of ATC Security related plans, to include the Continuity of Operations (COOP), Active Shooter and others; transforming security related plans into training and education materials for ATC personnel; assisting in formal exercises in a variety of capacities to test and support changes to ATC Security plans. Providing opinion and judgments concerning the interpretation and implementation of existing security policies and performing other duties as assigned including but not limited to taking security training to maintain sufficient level of knowledge to stay abreast of current security policies and requirements.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-9 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Assisting in tracking and maintaining keys and electronic key cards; Consulting on the use of various security equipment (ex; alarms, locking devices, closed circuit televisions); and Reviewing physical security policies to ensure compliance with regulations. Education Substitution: You may substitute a Master's degree or 2 full years of graduate education or a J.D or L.L.B. degree for experience required at the GS-9 grade level. Such education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise two years of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 36 semester or 54 quarter hours. Combining Experience and Education: To combine your education and experience, you must convert each to a percentage, and then add the percentages. The combined total of your percentage of education and experience must equal at least 100% in order to qualify. If your education is currently described in quarter hours, convert the quarter hours into semester hours by multiplying the quarter hours by the fraction 2/3. To calculate your percentage of graduate education, divide the number of graduate semester hours by 18. To determine your percentage of qualifying experience, you must divide your total number of months of qualifying experience by the required number of months of experience. Add your percentages of education and experience. The two percentages must total at least 100%. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process by 08/11/2023. In order to be considered for this position, you must complete all required steps in the process.
