About the Position: This position is with St Paul District. This position serves as helpers to Cook's routine and repetitive tasks in the preparation and cooking of food. The duty station is the Dredge Goetz, wherever it is located.

Duties

Cuts fish and poultry into specified portions. Dices or cubes ham, pork, beef, etc. Fries more simple foods such as bacon, eggs, hamburger meat, pork chops, etc., under close supervision. Makes cookies, bars, cakes and prepares bread for baking. Dices, peels, strip, clean, slices and washes vegetables and fruits. Prepares box lunches, including slicing meat, slicing cheeses, preparing lettuce, tomatoes, spreading dressing, wrapping and arranging in boxes. Washing dishes and putting them away. Stocking shelves and rotating stock in galley and all food storage areas. Assists in cleaning and keeping galley and mess areas clean, operating equipment, and obtaining foodstuffs from storage.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This is a seasonal position. Seasonal employment means annually recurring periods of work that typically eight to ten months each year but may vary depending upon the needs of management.
  • May be required to alternate working hours on all shifts to include weekdays and weekends as well as rotating shifts.
  • This position is subject to both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • The work involves frequent lifting or moving of objects weighing up to 30 pounds; constant standing and walking; and occasional lifting of over 50 pounds.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical and an annual physical thereafter.
  • The position meets the criteria for random drug testing under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program as supplemented by the USACE Pamphlet 600-1-3.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Cook~ without more than normal supervision. Perform common cook tasks such as dicing, cubing, frying, baking, and other common food preparation duties. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Working Conditions: Kitchens are often uncomfortably warm and noisy. There is exposure to steam, fumes, and odors from cooking. There is danger from falling on floors that have been freshly mopped or where food has spilled; burns from steam or hot foods; cuts from knives and electrical machines; exposure to extremes in temperatures when entering walk-in refrigerators from the warm kitchens.
